Blades, Wings and Pixels: A Cross-Cultural Study of Physical Debility and Modes of Reconstruction in Uganda and the United States
Vaia Sigounas will travel to Uganda to study how humanitarian aid plays a role in the distribution and availability of prosthetic and other assistive devices in the developing world. Her project will examine how technological innovations in prosthetic devices have the potential to alter how individuals reintegrate their identities after amputation, and the role of the community in making decisions about what machine-enhanced bodies are socially acceptable.
