A Better World in the Minds of Comrades: The Soviet Union in UNESCO, 1954-1982
My dissertation is the first history of the participation of Soviet citizens in UNESCO during the Khrushchev and Brezhnev eras. By looking at how Soviet representatives approached the philosophies and practices of UNESCO projects, I hope to introduce the overlooked role of international organizations in the making of post-Stalinist society, and highlight the Soviet contribution to the primary cultural and educational international organization of the postwar era.
