Project Title The Turkish Uprising of June 2013

Summary

The UNControllables will host Turkish-American blogger Ali Bektas for a presentation on what he experienced and saw during the May-June 2013 uprising in Istanbul. What started in May of 2013 as a direct action tree-sit to protest the bulldozing of a few trees in Gezi Park, Istanbul, erupted into a national-scale uprising against corruption, repression, and lack of resources for the marginalized sectors of society.
