Caught in the Act: Acting Paradigms and Spontaneous Expressions in the Age of Goethe

My project is an extension of my dissertation and explores the discourse on acting in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and hopes to shed light on the problem actors face when creating spontaneous gestures, such as affect, on the stage. My research will be conducted in the theater collections at the University of M?∫nster, which contains accounts from actors, supplemented with research trips to the collections at the Free University.
