A Critical Juncture: The Kurdish Elective Initiative in Turkey
I propose to conduct anthropological research in Turkey that focuses on the Kurdish Elective Initiative, which allows Kurdish to be taught in public elementary, middle and high schools for the first time in Turkey. I will explore how the Kurdish Elective Initiative has been framed by political and historical context, and how the objectives and hopes for the Kurdish Elective Initiative are articulated in local discourses.
