Nutrition Camps and Food Culture in Juventino Rosas, Mexico
Meagan Meekins will travel to Juventino Rosas, Guanjuato, Mexico in order to lead nutrition camps, help UNC first year medical students lead health faris, and conduct research. Her work will focus on current food culture and nutrition in rural Mexico by presenting children participating in the camps with disposable cameras, asking them to take pictures of food in their lives, and seeing first hand what is eaten and available in the communities.
Note: This award was made as a Carolina Undergraduate Health Fellowship, which is no longer offered under that name. Those interested in health-related projects are now encouraged to apply to the Carolina Global Initiative Award.
